The Corbett Foundation, named after the legendary Jim Corbett, is a registered public charitable trust established on April 22nd 1994 by Mr. Dilip D. Khatau, Chairman of Varun Shipping Co. Ltd., Mumbai and associated group of companies including the company which owns the Infinity Resorts at Corbett. The trustees include eminent individuals committed to the cause of conservation. The Foundation is mainly funded by Mr. Khatau's companies and associates and receives project grants from WWF - India, The Millichope Foundation of UK, the World Memorial Fund for Disaster Relief and various individual donors. In the past it has been funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation of UK.

The Corbett Foundation activities are conducted under two divisions - one based in village Dhikuli on the periphery of the Corbett Tiger Reserve, Uttaranchal and the other in Tera village of Abdasa Taluka in Kutch.

"The Corbett Foundation consists of a group of dedicated men and women who are committed to the conservation of wildlife and nature and fulfilling the ambition that men and nature must live together in harmony."

The wildlife programmes of the Foundation are targeted mainly at reducing human-animal conflict in the buffer zone of the Corbett Tiger Reserve. A major problem faced by the local rural people is that of loss of livestock by predators like the leopard and the tiger and crop damage from wild herbivores. In 1995, the Foundation started an interim relief programme to provide on the spot ex-gratia financial assistance to affected people. Later in October, 1997, WWF-India became a partner under its Tiger Conservation Programme with an aim to use the scheme to prevent poisoning of the tiger through cattle kills. The scheme is now jointly run by WWF - India who provides funds for assistance to owners whose cattle have been predated by wild animals and The Corbett Foundation which bears the operational costs. The Foundation also assists humans injured by wild animals as well as the families of those killed in accidental encounters with wild animals. The Foundation also undertakes research projects related with human - animal conflict situations.
