29 January 2002

The Honourable Prime Minister
Prime Minister's office
South Block
New Delhi 110 011

Respected Sir,

May I take this opportunity to congratulate you on your statement of 22 January 2002 regarding Protection of Wildlife and the priority given to conservation.

I have also seen the resolution passed at the meeting of the Indian Board for Wildlife, chaired by yourself. What is to be done for conservation of wildlife and the wilderness has been achieved by the passing of these resolutions by Indian Board for Wildlife . Now what needs to be achieved is the implementation of these resolutions for which I am sure the Prime Minister's Office will do the follow up with the various authorities.

I am the Chairman of the an organisation called The Corbett Foundation. This was founded by me in 1994, as a public charitable trust with wildlife conservation as one of its main objects. The Foundation also provides medical care for villagers living on the periphery of the Corbett National park, awareness of conservation targeted at school children and eco-friendly activities for tourists visiting the Park. It has a division in Kutch District of Gujarat with similar activities. I am enclosing a report of The Corbett Foundation for your kind perusal. In 2001, we won the WWF Award for Tiger Conservation.

Sir, I am sure your personal interest in wildlife conservation and the strong message sent to the states and relevant authorities will do wonders for saving the Tiger and its habitat for future generations of Indians.

Yours faithfully

DILIP D. KHATAU
