158 make use of special camp for women and children

(Special Medical Camp)

People living in and around Corbett Tiger Reserve lack proper medical facilities. Although The Corbett Foundation provides periodic medical facilities to local people, it was felt that there was an urgent need for a special camp for women and children, especially the services of a gynecologist and paediatrician. The main purpose of organizing this special camp was to make people living on the fringes of the park realize that benefits they are getting here are mainly because they share their range with CTR fauna; such societal benefits for locals it is hoped will compensate them for living in such out lying areas and hopefully will swing there mind set towards their greater cooperation in conservation of wild life.

On 17th December 2007, a special camp was organized at TCF headquarters at Dhikuli for the people living in and around the south-eastern portion of Corbett Tiger Reserve. Subsequently on 22nd December 2007 a special camp for women and children was established at Ratuadhab Forest Rest House for the local people living in and around the northern portion of the Corbett Tiger Reserve. The special camp was attended by Dr. Abu Rauff and Dr. Jing Mary from Singapore and Dr. Rati Mistry from Mumbai. In addition, this camp was also attended by Dr.J.S. Rawat and Dr. Jasveer Singh from TCF. At TCF camp 73 local derived benefit from the special camp while in the north 158 locals attended the special camp.
