WORKSHOP WITH VILLAGE REPRESENTATIVES IN NORTH ZONE

A workshop was organized with village representatives in northern portion of CTR at Ratuadhab Forest Rest House. The main agenda was to discuss the role of local people in conservation of flora and fauna of CTR. The workshop was attended by 22 village representatives and personnel from forest department and Corbett Foundation. The aim of workshop was to involve local people in conservation and to gain their support for the conservation of wildlife. The issues identified were : 1) Need for a policy to control crop damage by wild animals, 2) Crop damage directive & lack of information from forest department about the compensation from government, 3) Addition of Pipal Chaur area in TCF’s medical programme, 4) Exemption from formalities for getting cattle compensation, 5) Right of timber wood for local use, 6) Re-location of Gujjars from forest, and 7) Awareness programme in School.
